{"id":42,"date":"2016-02-29T13:25:58","date_gmt":"2016-02-29T13:25:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kirstenirving.com\/blog\/2016\/02\/29\/haul-monitor-collage-tomboys-and-crows\/"},"modified":"2022-08-03T22:55:26","modified_gmt":"2022-08-03T21:55:26","slug":"haul-monitor-collage-tomboys-and-crows","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kirstenirving.com\/blog\/2016\/02\/29\/haul-monitor-collage-tomboys-and-crows\/","title":{"rendered":"Haul Monitor: Collage, Tomboys and Crows"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019ve received a couple of fantastic things through the post of late, and thought I\u2019d share the excitement.<\/p>\n<p><b>Pamphlet: <\/b><b><i><a href=\"http:\/\/gojonstonego.com\/toys\/tomboys\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tomboys<\/a><\/i> by Jon Stone. <\/b><\/p>\n<figure class=\"tmblr-full\" data-orig-width=\"2048\" data-orig-height=\"1536\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/64.media.tumblr.com\/67718f86d44c5ef11e2bcdff01de1ce9\/tumblr_inline_o3b98hHSvu1sfm2k4_540.jpg\" alt=\"image\" data-orig-width=\"2048\" data-orig-height=\"1536\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>The pamphlet is an ode to three anime heroines: Utena from <i>Revolutionary Girl Utena<\/i>, Radical Edward from <i>Cowboy Bebop<\/i> and Nausicaa from Miyazaki\u2019s <i>Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind<\/i>. Through concrete poems, each figure is seen only in silhouette, as if from a distance or through a fogged lens.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"tmblr-full\" data-orig-width=\"2048\" data-orig-height=\"1536\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/64.media.tumblr.com\/fe2bdefc069b6540b57aeded055606ea\/tumblr_inline_o3b9801ont1sfm2k4_540.jpg\" alt=\"image\" data-orig-width=\"2048\" data-orig-height=\"1536\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>A real celebration of poetry, this three-piece sweet, published by Tungsten Press, is more is more micro-exhibition than collection. A numbered, limited edition, <i>Tomboys<\/i> is printed on thick, tactile cream paper with a dust jacket and spot colouring. My favourite part is that the page edges are deliciously ragged, like the hems of its heroines\u2019 clothing.<\/p>\n<p><b>Crow card (felt on card) by Ceri May<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/cerimay.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ceri May<\/a> has been the host of poetry night Y Tuesday Club, held in Clerkenwell, for some time, and is a felt artist, storyteller, poet and children\u2019s counsellor. A few days after I visited her and her fiance, the poet Mike West, she sent me this amazing chap:<\/p>\n<figure class=\"tmblr-full\" data-orig-width=\"2048\" data-orig-height=\"1536\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/64.media.tumblr.com\/414e6da261d1a897e269d0d019a64134\/tumblr_inline_o3b98vgjbe1sfm2k4_540.jpg\" alt=\"Felt crow card\" width=\"540\" height=\"405\" data-orig-width=\"2048\" data-orig-height=\"1536\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>Yeah, it\u2019s just MY OWN FELT CROW CARD. There\u2019s an excitement to receiving gifts through the posts, but handmade gifts are another level.
